At A Big Heart we cater to your needs. We do all the cooking, housework, yard work, etc. so you can kick up your heels and take it easy. You will never have to worry about what's for dinner, dealing with lines at the grocery store, running out of clean clothes to wear, or forgetting to take your medicine. Our staff is always on site, even during the middle of the night. We are committed to always being available to our residents, and that means we never sleep--literally. Alert and awake staff will promptly answer your call bell, even at 2 o'clock in the morning.

All staff members are licensed and certified to help give residents their medications via our delegating on-staff registered nurse. We monitor medications for effectiveness and side effects. Residents' vital signs and responses to medications are checked daily or as often as needed. In addition, we weigh our patients on a regular basis and monitor their nutritional status.

Medication assistance

We do more than simply pass out medicine to our residents. Under the guidance of our experienced registered nurse, Brandon, we truly understand the indications for every medication you take, and monitor for effectiveness and side effects.

Meal Preparation

Good nutrition is of utmost importance to good health. A Big Heart provides three square home-cooked meals every day that are as healthy as they are tasty. We encourage healthy eating, but know how to satisfy a sweet tooth too. We keep lots of snacks on hand, that are always available to residents. We want our residents to have access to foods they like, so we always offer multiple choices at every meal. We also adjust our menus to meet the likes and dislikes of our residents.

Birthdays, holidays, and special occasions are always celebrated with special meals that go beyond our regular menu. We enjoy ordering in fun foods periodically from local restaurants. The food is so good here that our staff routinely eats with residents, and families are always welcome to join us for meals--there's always plenty to go around. We happily accommodate most specialty diets.

Assistance with Activities of Daily Life (ADLs)

We help any resident who needs it with a variety of personal care tasks. Upon admission, our resident's are assessed by a registered nurse who determines their overall level of function. We can help with the following ADLs :

• Dressing
• Shaving
• Oral Care
• Bathing
• General personal hygiene/grooming
• Bowel and bladder management
• Functional mobility
• Personal device care (dentures, hearing aids, etc.)

Daily activities

Because we remove the burden of having to do chores from our residents' lives, they will enjoy plenty of time for leisure activities. We offer a lot of fun things to do for our residents every day. Craft projects are a regular occurrence around here. Residents enjoy decorating the house for the holidays with their own handmade decorations. We keep our game cupboard fully stocked with fun and interactive games that encourage socializing and mental stimulation. Residents also enjoy: regular movie and popcorn nights, outdoor barbecues, Bible study, gardening, satellite television with private receivers in every room, and bird-watching. We take regular strolls around the neighborhood and through the nearby park when the weather cooperates.

Housekeeping Services

How nice would it be to forget about doing the dishes, cleaning the windows, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the gutters, mowing the lawn, and all the hundreds of tasks homeowners have to worry about? We take care of all those things and more. Welcome to easy street! We take care of our residents' laundry in a timely manner--from the hamper to the hanger. We keep all of our rooms tidy, and sanitize surfaces often with Clorox antiseptic wipes. We keep our home in near-showroom condition all of the time.

Diabetic Care

Diabetes is a complex disease requiring close health monitoring. We are experienced with diabetic care and understand how to effectively manage it. We provide blood glucose monitoring, diabetic diets, and are licensed to administer insulin injections. We also understand and help our residents prevent and manage complications like hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, neuropathic pain and skin and foot problems.

Cosmetology Services

JoAnna is a licensed and experienced cosmetologists. Our large, open shower room serves as our in-house salon. We have professional portable equipment: salon chairs, dryers, and salon-quality rinse sinks. JoAnna has worked as a traveling cosmetologist in the local area for years. We are able to offer a lot more than just haircuts. We can do roller sets, permanents, hair coloring, cuts and styling. Fees for services are kept very reasonable for our residents, usually less expensive than can be found outside of the home. Of course, our residents may continue to use whichever salon they prefer, but will likely never want to leave their home for another haircut.
